GREAT NEWS !!!
Aroostook Region Five
is pleased to announce that it has acquired one Hewlett Packard
Codemaster 100 defibrillator/monitor for use in ALS training region
wide, which was generously given to us by Caribou Fire & Ambulance
Dept.
In addition to the
H/P Codemaster donation, the Aroostook Region Five office is
extremely pleased to convey that Chief Woods from Caribou Fire &
Amb. has also relinquished two additional Codemaster 100
defibrillator/monitors with chargers for temporary loan to other
EMS services on a short term-emergency backup basis. Just call the
Regional office should your service have that need.
The first unit
mentioned, will replace the obsolete Lifepak 5, which was previously
used for training, and will be dismantled and removed from our
current inventory.
The
new unit will allow for 12 lead EKG capability, of which the Lifepak
5 could not offer.
Anyone wishing to sign
out this new monitor is encouraged to contact the Regional office.
Our sincere thanks go
out to Caribou Fire & Ambulance for this major contribution.

PRESS
RELEASE
St. John Valley
EMT’s receive Enhanced Cardiac training.
In an effort to
further advancements in pre-hospital cardiac care, Madawaska Ambulance
in conjunction with Alain Bois R.N., recently conducted the Maine EMS
12 Lead EKG Standards Program for the members of the Madawaska
Ambulance Service and Ambulance Service Inc. of Fort Kent. The event
was held on Feb 18, 2008 at the St. John Valley Tech Center in
Frenchville.
This training will
allow Paramedics to conduct 12 lead EKG’s in the field, advancing the
level of cardiac care, and thus potentially lessening the initial
damage caused by a heart attack. This training is very complex and
specific, therefore the group covered a great deal of information that
was conveyed in the presentation made by Alain Bois R.N., who has many
years of cardiac experience, and is known as a local expert in EKG
technology.
The material used
for the presentation was reviewed and approved by Dr. Jay Reynolds,
Medical Director for Aroostook Region 5 Emergency Medical Services.
Together with Dan
Chasse, Service Director for Madawaska Ambulance, and Training
Coordinator Percy Thibeault, Madawaska Ambulance Service applied
through the Regional EMS office to conduct this high level training in
anticipation of the Maine State Board of EMS adopting 12 Lead EKG, as
a Paramedic Standard in July of this year.
For the community
it means that cardiac patients will now have the highest degree of
technology, previously only available in the hospital setting,
directly available in the Ambulance that responds to the call. This
advancement will allow pre-hospital care providers to collect valuable
cardiac data, resulting in quicker treatment, which may improve their
chances of survivability, and lessen the damage sustained during a
cardiac event.

PRESS
RELEASE
3/27/08
High View Manor
presented with a new Automated External Defibrillator
A local healthcare facility has been successfully
chosen to receive a “state of the art” lifesaving automated external
defibrillator, made possible through a donation made by Aroostook
Region 5 Emergency Medical Services.
This advanced cardiac tool can increase the chances of
survivability during a cardiac event. According to Steve Corbin,
Regional Coordinator, Madawaska has been a community of interest for
our organization to expand our AED network into the St. John Valley.
Specifically, High View Manor was selected as an ideal
placement for a unit, due to the fact that the facility is open 24/7,
and can offer local residents some peace of mind in knowing that this
technology is available for use, in the event of a local cardiac
emergency.
“ I was approached by Paramedic Percy Thibeault, and
made aware that there was a need for a public access unit in
Madawaska, and what better place than to house one but in a facility
that literally never closes, said Corbin.
In addition to receiving the AED, the nursing staff of
High View Manor, have been certified in the use of this equipment, as
well as certification in CPR.
The assignment of this unit brings to a total of seven
units, that are now strategically placed within the town of Madawaska.
Other units are located at Fraser Paper, Madawaska Police Dept.,
Horizons Health Services, Madawaska Outpatient Center, Madawaska High
School, and the Madawaska Senior Citizens Center.
